Abdul Majid, beloved son, father and grandfather and long held u.s. political prisoner, died today, Sunday, April 3, 2016. Abdul was imprisoned for more than three decades due to targeting by the FBI COINTELPRO program which sought to eliminate leaders of the Black Panther Party and other radical Black organizations.
Abdul is well-known and respected for his work with the Lifer’s Organization both inside and out the New York State Department of Corrections for facilitating classes, his teachings, leadership and counseling skills. In addition, he was active in prison helping young males to cope with long sentences, conduct legal research and providing civics training. Abdul is survived by loving family including his mother, children, grandchildren and even a few great-grandchildren. Abdul’s mother, Mrs. LaBorde, is legendary in her love for her son, regularly making the long trek to visit him despite her advanced age of 91.

Ms. Rose LaBorde, 90-year-old mother of Abdul Majid, talks about the difficulties presented in visiting her son, Abdul Majid, who is confined in New York State. Abdul has served considerable time behind the walls and he is due for a parole hearing. We are asking people to petition New York State parole to release Abdul.

After 33 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Abdullah Majid is finally scheduled to have his first parole hearing in 2015. He is asking for your support with letters to the parole board for his release. Abdul has so much to offer to communities on the outside with his youth development, teaching, leadership and counseling skills and letters from community organizations are welcome also.
His family earnestly wishes him to rejoin them, his elderly mother in particular needs him to stay with her. We encourage family and friends to attest to Abdul’s achievement with a letter to the parole board, including: his parenting skills, good character, Associate’s Degree in business administration, work with Lifer’s Organization including teaching classes for young adults on adjusting to prison and coping with long sentences, legal research, and civics.
